Prepress, Press, Postpress Equipment Installed Around the
Country
KENNESAW, Ga. - Heidelberg USA announces the following sample
of new product installations:
Advance Graphics and Printing Sees Advanced Results with
Printmaster PM 52
Jim and Naomi Tuttle, owners of Advance Graphics and Printing
in Chandler, Oklahoma, say the primary focus in their printing
business is customer service through efficiency and automation. To
keep up with their growing business, they installed a Heidelberg
five-color Printmaster PM 52 with perfector and a Prosetter 52 with
SCL and prepress interface for increased speed and quality. The
Tuttles say results have been "fantastic" and noted that
they can now keep more jobs in-house due to the efficiency of their
new press' perfector. Advance Graphics and Printing has come a long
way since it installed its first Heidelberg press in 1999. It now
produces twice the business with half the employees. With those
results, the Tuttles say they will only buy Heidelberg printing
equipment because of its quality and the company's service. They
say the last time they called a Heidelberg service agent, he showed
up in less than 24 hours from out of state - and in the middle of
an ice storm. "I didn't expect anyone to make it in,"
says Jim, "I barely made it the six miles to work that
day." Founded in 1984, Advance Graphics and Printing has four
employees. In addition to general commercial printing, the company
serves real estate and auction customers nationwide.
Western States Envelope & Label Seals Success with
POLAR 155 XT
Western States Envelope & Label knows the importance of
quality cutting. Department Manager Matt Frittitta installed a new
POLAR 155 XT in his cutting department at the company's Butler,
Wis., headquarters, replacing an older model. "We knew it was
time to replace our old model, which was approximately 20 years
old," Frittitta said. After comparing new POLAR models to
other cutters on the market, Frittitta noted that, "when it
came down to the mechanical advantages, we were concerned with some
of the other brands." Since installing the POLAR 155 XT a few
months ago, the company has experienced less downtime and faster
turnaround. These results are important to the success of this 24
hour-a-day plant, which produces more than seven million envelopes
each day. "The touch screen is nice, and the POLAR 155 XT has a
much faster back-gauge," Frittitta said. Because of these
results, Western States' Ohio division decided to increase its
capacity by installing a new POLAR 155 XT as well. The company,
founded in 1908, has divisions in Wisconsin , Kentucky , Ohio and
Minnesota with more than 700 employees that serve national and
international printers and mailing companies. According to
Frittitta, Western States will continue to look to Heidelberg in
the future for new POLAR equipment purchases.
Dominion Printers Perfects Pressroom with Printmaster PM 52 from
Heidelberg
The installation of a two-color Heidelberg Printmaster PM 52
marks an exciting time for Dominion Printers in Virginia Beach ,
Va. After much success with two previously-owned Heidelberg
presses, Dominion Printers installed the Printmaster PM 52 to take
on the "harder short-run and in-between jobs," according
to Pressroom Supervisor James Austin. "We realized that while
it may be a big investment on the front end to install a new
Heidelberg , the payoff in the end is so worth it," he said.
The Printmaster PM 52 allows Dominion Printers to offer a broader
spectrum of printing stock options to meet customer demands.
"The press has the capability to do whatever I want it to
do," said Austin. "The pressroom is perfect now."
Dominion Printers owns other Heidelberg equipment, including two
POLAR cutters and a new Stahlfolder, and it uses Heidelberg
Consumables in the pressroom. Founded in 1984, Dominion Printers'
staff of 20 produces business materials such as brochures, fliers
and posters for a variety of clients.

Postpress Equipment
4 Over Inc. is a unique print shop in that up to 95 percent

is its cutting-edge postpress equipment that keeps the print shop
turning out perfectly finished work. In keeping with its commitment
to quality, 4 Over recently purchased a Stitchmaster ST 350
saddlestitcher, two POLAR 37 cutters, two POLAR joggers and two

everything from business cards and postcards to books and
calendars. Andoun said the advantage of doing business over the

Blanks Printing & Imaging Speeds Ahead with New Stahlfolder
B 26
Blanks Printing & Imaging in Dallas , Texas recently
added to its existing Heidelberg equipment with the installation of
a Stahlfolder B 26. The new folder runs at an average rate of
16,000 sheets per hour. Jim Speed, who is head of the bindery, says
Blanks runs the folder almost 50 hours a week. "Having a third
large folder lets us have a higher base productivity," he
said. "We now can run an additional 16 hours of production per
day on the most up-to-date machine available, which allows for
quick turn-around for our clients." The Stahlfolder B 26
complements the bindery, which includes three older Stahlfolder
models. The postpress department also includes three POLAR cutters.

capabilities, from digital photography to expertise in prepress,

Graphic Communications Corporation Pumps Up Productivity with
Speedmaster CD 102, Heidelberg Postpress Equipment
Loyalty is important to Hoyt Tuggle and the 60 employees
at Graphic Communications Corporation in Lawrenceville , Ga. This
is why they have used only Heidelberg presses for the past 27
years. "We use all Heidelberg presses and all of our postpress
equipment is from Heidelberg; including folders, cutters and
stitchers," Tuggle said. Graphic Communications Corporation
most recently upgraded its pressroom with a new six-color
Speedmaster CD 102 with coater from Heidelberg. "The
productivity just changes everything," Tuggle said. "We
were able to retire three older presses with different sheet sizes
with the new CD 102." That productivity is important for a
company that services local, national and multi-national clients
that rely on Graphic Communications for their business-to-business
communications pieces. The pressroom now runs two presses full
time, including a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74. With improved
quality and greater capability, the new Speedmaster CD 102 allows
Graphic Communications Corporation to concentrate on all areas of
its business, including its full-service print fulfillment,
point-of-purchase, multi-media communications, digital media and
graphic design divisions. Founded in 1972, the general commercial
printer is family-owned and operated out of Lawrenceville.
Menu Works Feeds Appetite for Success with Heidelberg
Printmaster QM 46-2
Menu Works has grown from a single person operation to a
booming business with more than 1,500 restaurant customers during
the past 13 years. Menu Works' team of 22 "menu
specialists" are able to fully accommodate their clients, from
in-house menu design to printing covers, table stands, menus,
business cards, gift certificates and placemats. The quality of
Menu Works' offerings is now better than ever with the installation
of a new Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46-2. "We run two-color
to-go menus and kids' placemats on the QM 46," said Bruce
Jones, Production Manager for Menu Works in Greenville , S.C.
"We can now print with much better resolution than
before." Since its customer base continues to grow to more
than 40 states, requests for 500 menus are now turning into
requests for 5,000 to 10,000 menus, and Menu Works can accommodate
those large order quantities. Jones, familiar with Heidelberg's
reputation of excellence, turned to Heidelberg for a press that
could help alleviate Menu Works' growing pains and keep more of
their work in-house. "We are very pleased with the QM
46," said Jones, who says he will look to Heidelberg in the
future for their press needs as Menu Works continues to grow.
For Art Bindery, the Big Attraction is POLAR Cutting Systems
Art Bindery, Inc. in Birmingham, Alabama has recently
upgraded one of its existing POLAR cutters with a POLAR stack lift,
POLAR jogger RAH and POLAR Transomat unloader, and it plans to
install a new POLAR 137 XTR cutting system this month. Art Bindery
is purchasing the POLAR 137 XTR cutting system to support its new
MagnetLAM process. The MagnetLAM process takes any printed press
sheet and transforms it into a flexible magnet. Art Bindery is
presently trimming these magnet sheets in four-inch lifts, which
weigh about 250 pounds. The shop says the POLAR Transomat unloader
saves them untold man hours and fatigue in automatically
palatalizing the trimmed magnets. Art Bindery will soon have a
total of four POLAR cutters; two will be complete trim systems. Art
Bindery does specialized print finishing and bindery work for the
print trade and employs 30 people in its 85,000 square-foot
facility.
Perfection Press Lives Up to Its Name with New Printmaster
PM 74
Perfection Press in Logan, Iowa should give lessons in
professional printing. The printer, which produces school text
books and workbooks, has just upgraded to a new four-color
Printmaster PM 74 with perfector. Perfection Press Vice President
Steve Browning says the new press has been an "amazing"
improvement over the shop's old press. He says make-ready times
have been cut in half and run speeds have doubled to 10,000 sheets
per hour. Other features Perfection Press likes include the press'
reasonably compact design that did not require the shop to pour any
new flooring; the static eliminator, which allows the shop to print
on lighter weight paper; and the auto blanket and auto plate that
result in quicker make-ready times. Browning also says the system
service 36plus agreement, which comes with new Heidelberg
presses and provides 36 months of repair services and parts,
Web-based remote service and 24/7 expert access, gives him
"peace of mind." Perfection Press produces education
material for its sister company, Perfection Learning, as well as
general commercial printing for colleges and small publishers.
Founded in 1965, it now employs 45 people.

74, Prosetter P74
Ryan Printing, Inc., Blauvelt, N.Y., has installed a new
Speedmaster CD 74 five-color press with coater, together with an
automated Prosetter P74 violet platesetter. The new press replaces
an older five-color press and features the Heidelberg Prinect Axis
Control color measurement system. The Speedmaster CD 74 has already
yielded significant improvement in productivity. According to Al
Ryan, owner/president, the addition of a faster, more productive
press with coater will help expand the company's markets and
increase its competitiveness. "Production on the Speedmaster
CD 74 is greatly enhanced because it can print a 23 3/4 x 29 inch
press sheet, allowing for 50 percent more output on sell sheets,
six-page brochures and 11 x 17 inch items, as well as many more
postcards up per sheet." The new Prosetter P74 handles around
1,000 plates per month. Ryan also operates a Heidelberg QM DI
four-color press and a Speedmaster 74 four-color press with
perfector. Its bindery hosts a pair of Stahlfolders, a Stitchmaster
